Questions About Senior Living in Michigan

Q. What Options Are Available and what do they entail?

A. Here is a brief description of the options:

In Home Care
In home care is designed to allow individuals to remain independent in their own home setting. Caregivers come to the home and provide assistance with daily living such as meal preparation, transportation and personal care.
Independent Living
Independent Living communities, often referred to as retirement homes or congregate living are typically apartment like settings designed specifically for retirees and independent seniors. Services and amenities will vary but most senior housing may include optional housekeeping, meals, social activities and transportation.
Assisted Living
Assisted Living communities provide a wide variety of personalized supportive services and health care for individuals who require help with the activities of daily living. These communities are staffed 24-hours a day and generally offer assistance with grooming, bathing, medication reminders, meals and housekeeping. The amount of help provided is determined by each individuals needs.
Nursing Home
Nursing Homes have 24-hour a day skilled nursing care and are licensed to provide health care and services for individuals with complex medical needs both long term and short term. Many nursing homes or long term care facilities are also licensed to accept both Medicare and Medicaid insurance.

Memory Care

Many assisted living facilities specialize in helping individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. Mentally stimulating programs are implemented to help residents maintain appropriate interests and life skills. These communities provide a safe and secure environment.

Respite Care
Respite Care is a short term living arrangement that can provide family members a rest from the stress of daily care giving. Many assisted living and nursing homes will provide this around-the-clock care for an individual who may be recuperating from an illness or need only short term assistance.
Adult Day Care Services

Many assisted living facilities have programs available for adults and aging seniors who require only occasional supervision. Social activities, meals and personal care services can be provided on an as-needed basis. Adult day care offers the flexibility of non-scheduled visitations as well as regular drop-off times.

Client Testimonials
"Parents Changing Spaces has done all the "leg work" involved regarding assisted living facilities.  I did not have time to research these places as I was barely finding the time to care for my father and my family."
