What is a Retirement Home?

A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Typically each individual or couple in the retirement home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Included in the same building is a number of additional facilities. These are facilities for meals, gathering, recreation, and possibly some form of health care.

Retirement homes encompasses a variety of types of environments. Generally it refers to any community or group of homes for retired persons over 55 years old who do not need help with daily living.

The level of facilities may vary enormously from one retirement home to the next. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium.

A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents.

Client Testimonials
"Parents Changing Spaces has done all the "leg work" involved regarding assisted living facilities.  I did not have time to research these places as I was barely finding the time to care for my father and my family."
